Self referrals

Pharmacy First

Local pharmacies can now assess and treat you with medicines (including antibiotics when appropriate) for a range of conditions without needing to see a GP. You can walk into any participating local pharmacy for advice and treatment.

Pharmacy teams can manage the following conditions and directly issue medication where needed:

  • Sore throat (ages 5+)
  • Ear pain (ages 1–17)
  • Urinary tract infections (UTIs) (women ages 16–64)
  • Sinusitis (ages 12+)
  • Infected insect bites (ages 1+)
  • Shingles (ages 18+)
  • Impetigo (ages 1+)

If you’re outside these age ranges or presenting with a different condition, pharmacists can still advise and may refer you to a GP if necessary.
